Jack Colescott was an outstanding athlete at Gas City High School (now Mississinewa) before enrolling at Indiana Central College in Indianapolis where he earned four letters each in basketball and baseball - and won the Brenneman Sportsmanship Award.

After graduating from college, Colescott returned to his native Grant County where he served as head basketball coach at Swayzee High School for eight years.

In 1961, Colescott moved to Marion High School where he first served as head basketball coach and later as athletic director. As a coach, Colescott led the Giants to Final Fours in 1968 and 1969. The Giants won state basketball tourneys in 1975 and 1976 when Colescott was athletic director. His son, David, won the coveted Arthur L. Trester Award and was named Indiana's Mr. Basketball in 1976.

Colescott retired from Marion High School in 1996 but continued to serve as an assistant coach for another 10 years at Fort Wayne North Side High School and at his alma mater, Mississinewa High School

Colescott was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997 and recently was named a director of the Indiana High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Proceeds from the Jack Colescott Athletic Scholarship Golf Tournament go for athletic scholarships at Indiana Wesleyan University.
